OK guys! My first tournament is officially over and I would have to say that it was a definite success. Everything ran pretty smoothly for the most part. It was a little hectic at the beginning, especially when the power gods decided to shut off the power and air condition right before the tourney started! I was definitely not the happiest person at that time. We got the power back up but, the air condition was un-repairable so, we had to improvise with some huge factory sized fans. It wasn’t extremely hot but, it wasn’t comfortable either. I mean c’mon. With 70 kids and 8 TV’s in one room, it is going to get warm, regardless. Anyways, once the first couple of rounds starting going, everything just fell into place. I was surprised not to have any mental breakdowns on my part and I even got to play a game of FFA. We won’t get into details on how I placed but, let’s just say I didn’t get last! HA! I also met a bunch of new people from all over the valley. I met a group of guys from Mexico, some Xbox Live buddies that I’ve never met in person, and we even had a touring rock band come by and join the tournament. The entire day was just chalk full of surprises. Since this was my first tournament, I did miss a couple of things on my preparation for the tournament but, now I know what to improve on to make the next one even better! I had a lot of feedback from the players and most of them requested a 1v1 category so, for the next tournament; I want to include a 1v1 category and start a Madden tournament all over the course of an entire weekend. I still need to work on logistics but, this is what the people want so, I’m giving it to them. Tell me what you think about this idea by writing to me on the “contact us” page of the website. I always enjoy getting feedback so, hit me up! Now, I would like to thank everyone that helped me put this tournament together. I want to first thank my parents for supporting me in everything that I do. I couldn’t have even begun to put this together if it wasn’t for them. I want to thank Anthony Guerra and the NAACP for being nice enough to lend me the place for the day, my good friend Adrian Gonzalez for helping me with the TV’s, all my friends who pitched in with the hardware, my buddies Mike, Rick, and Luis for helping me at the tournament, Albert Ortiz for helping me with advertising and the website, my brother Buddy who did some very important refereeing and my sister, Sasha who also contributed. Thanks again to everyone that helped me put together my first tournament and thanks to all of our participants for entering and being so patient with me throughout the day. I'll keep everyone posted on our next tournament. Hopefully it will within the next couple of weeks! |
